Episode 030: The Mermen
(Episode 031: The Most Wicked Man of East Blue, Arlong of the Mermen Crew)

New characters introduced: Nezumi, Arlong, Hachi, Chew, Kuroobi, Chabo, Nojiko, Mohmoo

     Clip Edit:
Luffy looking upside down while standing after Sanji told him to be quiet is cut out. It was only a second or two.

     Digital Edit:
The "Wanted" on the posters in Yosaku's flashback were digitally wiped clean. [Dub|Sub]

Johnny putting his hands over his mouth as he noticed that Nami was looking at Arlong's wanted poster is taken out.

     Digital Edit:
All of Arlong's info have been wiped clean, also. [Dub|Sub]

     Clip Edit:
Yosaku tightening his grip on his knees were skipped also. This happens after his memory of Nami with Arlong's wanted poster.

The 1 second clip showing Yosaku's bottom half before he sits down (Sanji and Luffy were joking around about the Fishmen) is cut out.

The back of Sanji's boat sailing off while Luffy and Yosaku ordered a double heaping of their food is cut out.

The far away shot of Nami sitting silently on Going Merry is also taken out. They also didn't show the side view of Nami as she was thinking, but then there was a 4Kids commercial. Right after the commercial, they showed the Strawhat Jolly Roger again and then those missing clips like it originally should.

     Dialogue Edit:
Dubbed Nami sounds so happy to be back home.. *sniff* (perhaps she's hinting too much)

     Tidbit:
Arlong, as well as his crew have an effect on their voice similar to what dubbed Buggy showed us way back in the beginning of the series. This time though, it's probably to make their voice sound watery-like..

     Clip Edit:
The close up of Chew (happens right after the close up of Kuroobi) is cut out.

     Dialogue Edit:
Nothing about how Arlong is obsessed with money... maybe in the next few episodes we'll see it develop.

Chabo, one of the kids who lived in Gosa (we find out his name in the later episodes) sort of threatened Nami with a sword to get out of the way. He wanted to avenge his father who was recently murdered by Arlong. In the dub, the father seems to be still alive.

     Clip Edit:
Nami taking out her three piece staff from the inside of her shirt was mostly cut out so it was very quick.

Nami putting them back (is cut a bit also) was switched with a close up of her while she was talking to Chabo.

The fishmen (a still picture moving from left to right) celebrating as Nami just returned is cut out, as well as Nami smirking. Right after is the eyecatcher.

A bit where Zoro uses his katana to get up is cut for the same reasons we weren't allowed to see the bottom half of Yosaku earlier in the episode.

Usopp and Johnny using a hammer to take out Zoro and tie him up (only saw the hammers fly, we didn't see Zoro get hit but it was an assumption) was removed from the episode. [Sub] In the dub, I guess Usopp and Johnny tied him up while he was still conscious. Then there was an added scene of a very far away view of Arlong Park while Zolo was getting tied up, just heard voices and sfx.

For some reason Johnny's pointer finger went the other way and stopped at Arlong Park rather than Cocoyashi Village (dubbed Coco Village) but I guess it's just to fit the dialogue so it's ok.

Zoro kicking Usopp in the face is cut out. [Sub] A lot of change in dialogue as well but it doesn't affect much.

Usopp and Johnny swimming to shore is cut out. [Sub]

     Digital Edit:
A mystery woman (Nojiko) hits Chabo to stop him from further attacking Usopp (he's terrified you know, a little kid with a sword, I'd be scared too) and her hand got erased. [Dub|Sub]

     Tidbit:
Usopp's Hissatsu Namariboshi is quite similar to "Unstoppable Lead Star" which is what dubbed Usopp's attack is called (Hissatsu can mean sure-death, sure-kill, etc).

     Clip Edit:
Nojiko taking out Usopp with a hammer is also cut out. [Sub]

Back on Sanji's boat... Sanji drinking the contents of the wine glass is cut out.

And then as Luffy's eating and Yosaku's talking (Sanji's still drinking at this time), we were supposed to see a super close up of the wine glass because Sanji lowered it after he drank his wine. [Sub]

Added an extra clip of Yosaku eating after telling Sanji how nice it'd be when everyone's together again.

     Dialogue Edit:
Instead of wine, Sanji was pouring (I believe) "Pomegranated Juice".

Arlong didn't have any dialogue as the fishmen brought Zoro to him.

     Name Edit:
After hearing "East Blue Sea" a few times in this particular episode, maybe they really did decide to keep it "East Blue" but tag along "Sea" at the end. I don't know. I still think that they're describing the blue sea rather having "East" as part of the name. What do you think?

Dubbed Arlong calls the species of human, "P-Uman" because, to him humans stink.

     Clip Edit:
The close up of Nami smirking right right right before the "To Be Continued" (original only) is cut out. The dubbed episode ended with Zolo.
