Episode 036: War of the Species
(Episode 038: Luffy in Trouble! Mermen vs Luffy Pirates!)

     Clip Edit:
Some clips at the beginning are missing. The third clip from the beginning.. it's Nami's frontal view as she's crying, that is in the original, came after zooming into Nami from the sky. Right after that clip the camera shifts to the knife on the ground and after that, the tears landing on her pants while the camera moves up, and all of this is gone.

The entire scenes involving Luffy punching down Arlong's gate are gone, since we saw this happen in the last episode, I guess. In the dub it just starts as the smoke clears and we can see Luffy far away. But then, 4Kids takes out a couple of more clips after that. Arlong's shocked face and Luffy asking, "Which one's Arlong?"

     Interesting Note:
Yeah.. well, Hat-chan points at Luffy and tells everyone that he's the one who likes to take walks. However.. that is his response to the time when Luffy walked past Hachi a few episodes back, and in the dub, Luffy never met Hachi yet (because those scenes were all cut out~!).

     Clip Edit:
Right after Hachi is done explaining and what not, the clip that showed Luffy walking from right to left towards the fishmen is cut out.

     Dialogue Edit:
Dubbed Luffy thought to himself, "How about this..." as he readies a punch, which never happened in the original.

     Clip Edit:
The way Luffy's flashback that involved Nami was slightly changed. It was a quick white *flash* instead of the screen slowly transitioning to the flashback. I don't know whether to count this as a digital edit or not, but the edges of the dubbed flashback are white edges, rather than the "smudging" edges presented in the original.

The close up shot of Luffy in the flashback is gone too. It was taken out in the last episode as well. Also, going back to the present time from the flashback is treated the same way as the clip edit above.

     Dialogue Edit:
Hehe.. Zolo clucks like a chicken because Usopp's afraid.

     Dialogue/Clip Edit:
Chew's short dialogue right after Hachi finds out about Usopp alive is taken out.

     Dialogue Edit:
GAH! .. Hat-chan's trumpet call for Mohmoo is changed to a screeching-like "MOHMOOOMOMOMOMOMOHMOO!!!" kind of call.

     Clip Edit:
One shot of the villagers after Hachi calls for Mohmoo is cut out.

The clip that occurs shortly after, that shows the water trembling by Hachi's feet is taken out.

They kept the flashback that had Luffy punching Mohmoo, but the rest of the flashback after that (Sanji's Collier on Mohmoo and Mohmoo falling) is cut out.

     Clip Edit:
The clip with the fishmen responding to Arlong noticing Luffy's Devil Fruit ability is cut out.

Right as Luffy begins to use Gomu Gomu no Kazaguruma, a semi-transparent animation of Genzo's pinwheel appears, but it is taken out in the dub. Doing the Gum Gum Pinwheel scene must've been awful for dubbed Luffy's VA, Erica Schroder. o.o

The first scene of the knocked out fishmen (happens after the original eyecatcher) is cut out.

Two clips later the back shot of the villagers is also taken out.

A far away shot of Arlong right before Kuroobi shifts to the right is taken out.

     Name Change:
Dubbed Hachi said his attack was called "Jet Black 8". The original attack was called "Tako (Octopus) Hachi (8) Black".

His "Tako Hachi Black on the Rocks" is dubbed "8 Rock Block".

     Digital Edit:
Dubbed Sanji's lollipop stick is super super tiny! o.o You'd think it turned into a toothpick.. but NO! [Dub|Sub]

     Clip Edit:
A closer close up of Sanji after Kuroobi laughs at him is cut out.

     Digital Edit:
Hey.. look, his lollipop is getting smaller. :D [Dub|Sub] Must be sticky on the hand..

     Clip Edit:
The part right before Chew gets back up after getting smacked by Luffy/Usopp (Usopp let Luffy go after trying to pull him out and Luffy flew into Chew) is cut out.

The clip with the villagers is cut out again, in the original they were wondering if the guy that ran by them (Usopp) was the one that saved Genzo.

     Name Change:
Usopp's Kaenboshi (Flaming Star) is dubbed Hot Salsa Star. And yes.. they left Chew on fire in the dub. Heheh.

     Clip Edit:
Right after hearing Nojiko's thoughts about the Straw Hats, Arlong finally gets up (camera shows his bottom half), and this is cut out.

Arlong lifts Luffy up while grabbing onto his left arm. To fight back, Luffy attempts to Gomu Gomu no Pistoru Arlong with his other free fist, but Arlong bites it before he throws Luffy into the sea. In the dub, Arlong simply lifts him up, makes his statement, and tosses Luffy into the sea. The following is cut out: The Pistol shot, all the scenes that had Luffy's fist in Arlong's teeth, Luffy bitting Arlong back, and the shot with Kuroobi and Chew after that. They repeated a clip of a close up of grinning (and added dialogue) before he tossed Luffy up in the dub.

     Dialogue Edit:
After Arlong sits back down, Hachi's dialogue is skipped.

     Clip Edit:
Sanji putting his cigarette in his mouth as he and Zoro prepare to fight is taken out.

     Dialogue Edit:
Arlong never mentioned how inferior the human race is to them in the dub.
