New characters introduced: None Dubbed Title Meaning: According to TVTome, "arms against arms" refers to Hachi's rokutouryu (six sword style) against Zoro's santouryu (three sword style). If you ask me, I honestly don't know. Clip Edit: Okay.. how can I say this. Well, it's the reason why I couldn't match up the same title screenshot with the English and Japanese version of the episode. In the original, right after the title, Arlong talks offscreen while the clouds continue to move. As Arlong's talking, that particular scene with the clouds in that position is used for the title of the dubbed episode. So.. in the end, I couldn't match up the screenshots together. Arlong laughs, then Yosaku tells Johnny that Luffy's in a tight spot. Right after, everything until after Zoro dodges Hachi's Tako Hachi Black is cut out. That's like, 4 clips at least. Luffy hanging on, the shot with Nojiko and Genzo, Zoro running towards Hachi, Hachi using his move, and Zoro dodging it. In the dub, they started right when Zoro lands after dodging and heads for Hachi again. Name Change: Haha, Hachi's Tako-san-ren-shin-ken-shira-ha-dori (K-F has a note with "Special-Move-Octopus-Catching-the-Blade-With-Bare-Hands!") is nameless in the dub, and instead of the original move said in separate "screenshots", dubbed Hachi says something along the lines of "How dare-you-call-me-a freak-you-puman!" Digital Edit: The blood on Hachi's head is wiped off, but so was his tatoo (by accident, probably). [Dub|Sub] Dialogue Edit: At this point when Sanji notices Zoro's strange behavior, Zoro simply stated that they're running out of time (to save Luffy). In the dub, Zolo told us all that the wound Mihawk gave him never healed. Zoro doesn't like to talk about stuff like that out loud, you know. Name Change: "It's time for theeee... Hachi Stick-em!" is what dubbed Hachi said when he hung upside down on a column while running away from Zolo. In the original, it was his "Tako Hachi... Number.. 9." Clip Edit: In the Japanese version shortly after Hachi hangs on the column, Johnny and Yosaku realize that they're nearly out of time to save Luffy, so they decide to go. But Gen-san knows that they're badly injured and decides to go instead. Nojiko comes up behind up with a giant hammer and at the end, both head towards where Luffy is. Luffy runs out of air and lets go. In the English version, all the events involving Johnny, Yosaku, Genzo and Nojiko are missing, and right after Zolo tells Hachi not to play around, we see Luffy run out of air. The first blow that Sanji lands on Kuroobi is cut out. The quick flashback that involved Mihawk inflicting Zoro's wound, and Yosaku and Johnny shouting "Aniki!" is taken out. After Zoro collapses, some of Yosaku's dialogue was I guess, not needed in the dub, so Doctor turning to them shocked after hearing about Zoro's wound is cut out. Yosaku and Johnny crawling out of the crowd to see who flew by them (Sanji) is cut out, as well as scene with the villagers wondering if a person just flew by. Interesting Note: I've noticed that other than Hachi and Arlong, the rest of the fishmen's voices don't have a doubling effect (or it's just less noticeable). Clip Edit: The far away shot of Arlong Park, the scene with the clouds (used for the title as well), a shot of Hachi, then back to the zoomed out shot of Arlong Park, they are taken out. All of this happens after Kuroobi takes Sanji out. We continue on in the dub with Hachi's arms out wanting to fight.. A little scene with Usopp and Chew is gone. It happens after the original eyecatcher. Usopp noticed that Chew wasn't following him anymore for some reason. Then he starts making fun of him, which is definitely hilarious. [Sub] A close up shot of a drowned Luffy and Nojiko and Genzo suddenly finding a great idea for the situation is cut out. After Sanji wakes up, he smokes while lying down, which is removed from the dub. Yosaku, Doctor, and Johnny's comments about Zoro as he begins to wear his bandana is entirely removed. Name Change: Hachi's Tako Ashi Kiken (Octopus Leg Danger) is dubbed Tenticle Sword Overload. Zoro's Tourou Nagashi (Bleeding the Wolf) is dubbed Streaming Wolf Swords. Color Edit: Hachi's injury was not to be in the dub.. but I guess it counts as a blood edit. [Dub|Sub] Clip Edit: After Hachi boasts about 6 swords and 3 swords and everything else, Zoro slowly turns around and quick flashbacks with Mihawk and himself as a kid as well as Luffy's current condition are taken out. A close up of Zoro's hand holding each blade is removed in the dub. A couple taken out soon after. A backshot of Hachi, a close up of Hachi (with his blades close to his own face), a zoomed out side ways shot of both of them, and a close up of one of Hachi's hands gripping his blade. Dialogue Edit: In the dub, Hachi's blades are 500 pounds each, and in the original they're 300kg each. Wait, is that equal? Name Change: Hachi's Rokutouryu, Tako Tsubo no Kamae (Six Sword Style, Octopus Pot Stance) is dubbed Six Sword Attack, Octopus Dance (it sounded like Octopunch Dance, though). Dialogue Edit/Name Change: Then we've got Hachi's little attacks after that are not translated for the dub. He used Shin Shun (New Year) and Takoage (Kite Flying). As he rams into Zoro's wound, his Takai (Body Shredder) is just "Body Slam!" in the dub. Then his Rokutouryu Ougi, Rokutou no Warutsu (Six Sword Style Secret Attack, Six Sword Waltz) is dubbed Waltz on the Six Blades. Clip Edit: Right before Zolo lands on Hachi's Waltz, the screen quickly goes on to the faces of the villagers. In the original after Zoro lands on the Waltz, it was made to look like his head was being shreded. Scaary.. but we soon find out that Zoro spun with him and in the process cut Hachi's hands. Clip/Dialogue Edit: Skipped Doctor's statements about Zoro's wound opening again. Name Change: Zoro's Tatsumaki (Tornado/Dragon Twister/Dragon Coil) is called Dragon Twister! Clip Edit: Still shots of shocked people (Yosaku, Kuroobi, Johnny, and villagers) right after the Tatsumaki are taken out. Arlong calling Hachi's name before Hachi begins to fall is cut out too. First clip of Hachi falling is removed. They were shots of Hachi, each shot zooming in closer and closer. Nami tying up her wound on her shoulder and running towards Arlong Park are gone, because in the dub she did not stab her arm in a furious rage because of Arlong. Even so, she wasn't part of this episode in the dub. Dialogue Edit: Instead of Sanji telling Kuroobi that many people could stand up to his punch, especially those in a certain sea restaurant, in the dub he talks about how Kuroobi's fists don't say good bye, but they say "a tiny little ta-ta". Clip Edit: A close up of Sanji smiling after Kuroobi tells him he has been fooled is removed. In the dub, the scene that originally happens at the end of the episode, that particular one of Usopp running away from Chew; take that scene and shove it right after a close up of Kuroobi and before a zoomed out shot of Kuroobi, Sanji, and Zoro. And then add a scene that was probably from an earlier episode, a sideways view of Usopp running away from Kuroobi and stick that in before seeing a close up of Usopp's face as he runs away. Mix it all together and what do you get? One short still of Sanji flying into the water is removed in the dub. A short clip of the water surface afterwards before Sanji swims to the bottom is taken out. Genzo thinking as he tries to revive Luffy (happens after the scene with Nojiko) is removed. Name Change: Kuroobi's Gyojin Karate, Wan Tou Giri (Merman Karate, Arm Blade Chop) is dubbed to something.. with a Sledge. It's unhearable, to be honest (reminds me of Cabaji's moves I couldn't hear back in the Buggy arc). Clip Edit: A load of scenes after are taken out (What do you expect? It's a 3 -> 2 episode merger). They include a shot of Arlong Park (with Arlong laughing and talking in the background), and still shots of people (Nojiko, Yosaku, villagers.. etc). In the dub it continues with a different scene of Genzo reviving Luffy. Episode 39 ends here! Now to start on Episode 40 while the dub is.. still on episode 37. All the scenes before the camera takes a dive underwater (short clips of Zoro and Arlong) are cut out. Name Change: Kuroobi's Gyojin Karate, Itomaki Kumite (Merman Karate, Hair Belt) is dubbed to.. something with hair. Again, it's nearly impossible, for me anyways, to hear clearly what this guy's announcing. I can tell you that it's not a direct translation. Clip Edit: Genzo continuing his mission after watching a little, as well as a frontal view of Kuroobi is cut out. Name Change: Kuroobi's Gyojin Karate, Kaisoku (Merman Karate, Water Speed) is dubbed Merman Karate, Full Speed. Following Kuroobi's Kaisoku is his Harakuda Shigeri (Lower Abdominal Kick). This is dubbed to Instant Undersea Bladder Buster! Kuroobi's Gyojin Karate, Ka Ka Kakato Otoshi (Merman Karate, Burning Iris Heel Stomp) is dubbed to Merman Karate, Flaming Axe Kick. His Gyojin Karate, Kachiage Haisoku (Merman Karate, Reverse Counter Kick) is dubbed Merman Karate, I can't hear what he's saying x_X; (no, that's not the move, but damn his gurggly noises). His Hissatsu Joudan Bakushou (Sure-kill Palm Strike) is dubbed to something with a boom ball. Lol. Sorry, someone has to help me listen for these in the later future. Clip Edit: Everything occuring above the surface (Zoro, Arlong, Usopp running, Nojiko) and Genzo still on his mission is gone. All of these occur after Kuroobi denies Sanji his need for air. Another frontal view of Kuroobi as he talks about Sanji's so called chivalry (all of this important stuff isn't mentioned in the dub, by the way) is gone, as well as 1-2 scenes with Sanji holding his breath. A shot of the back of Sanji's head is gone (originally happens before dubbed Kuroobi says "Good bye" with the camera zoomed in on his mouth). Kuroobi holding Sanji in front of him and the following shot (frontal view of Sanji) are gone. Kuroobi's face turning all menacing-like before he takes Sanji down to the bottom is cut out. Name Change: Noo.. make the pain stop. Kuroobi's Appakushi Chokakouro (Pressure-Crushing Death Dive) is dubbed Pulverizing Pressure Plunge. Clip Edit: The effect of the rapid pressure change on Sanji is removed. After Kuroobi hits the bottom, a shot of Sanji is gone. At this point he's internally bleeding. Dialogue Edit: Sanji originally never said anything as he pointed one finger at Kuroobi. Clip Edit: A close up of Zoro when he notices something rising out of water is cut out. It's Sanji! A side shot of Zoro shortly after is gone too. A quick one - Just Sanji climbing out of the water is cut out. Name Change: Kuroobi's Hyaku Mai Gawara Sei Ken (100 Direct Punch) is dubbed 100 Brick Fist. As well, his Sen Mai Gawara Sei Ken (1000 Direct Punch) is the 1000 Brick Fist. Sanji's fury of awesome kicks. All with different names! Yay! When dubbed Sanji says "Clavicle Schnitzel Kicker Off", in the original he says, "You said my chivalry was naive?" Before Sanji uses Epaule on Kuroobi, a shot of him trying to get up is cut out. Before Sanji's next blow, Kuroobi's terrified-ness look is cut out. Before the Mutton Shot, Kuroobi trying to get back up is cut out. Afterwards, Kuroobi preparing for his Kyuu Koku Sei Ken (Direct Air Punch) and 1000 Direct Punch, and him in shock since Sanji.. disappeared, all of that is cut out. Cotelettes and Selle had no translations because the clips with those moves aren't in the dub. Color Edit: Hahaha, this is so quick it's hard to notice it, but I have no idea what it's about. Seriously :D. After Sanji's Mutton Shot, there's some weird squiggly lines on Kuroobi's face. Originally there was a huge red mark. But it's funny because.. it's just so weird! [Dub|Sub] Clip Edit: The side shot of Yosaku and Johnny (they're in great awe) is cut out, as well as a close up of Zoro, who grins. The camera moves down towards the newly made hole in Arlong Park after the original eyecatcher. This is cut out. Sanji slipping his shoes back on is taken out. This is the end of dubbed episode 37! It's only half way through the original episode 40 (12 mins in). The episode ends with a close up of Arlong's eye and before Zoro asks Sanji what he meant when he said half of Luffy is okay (and just to point out, dubbed Sanji told Zolo that Luffy's head is ok). |
