Episode 039: Wanted!

     Clip Edit:
Last time episode 38 ended with Luffy looking for Arlong, who has suddenly disappeared from the fight. The episode beings with Arlong underwater, so that means everything before Luffy looking at Arlong while he's swimming near the surface till when we first see Arlong underwater (that's where the dub starts) is gone.

     Name Change:
Arlong's Shark on Darts is changed to Shark and Awe. (?)

     Clip Edit:
Luffy falling face flat after Arlong's first Shark on Darts is cut out. After that everything until the time when it looks like Luffy's going to fall into the water (he uses Gomu Gomu no Ami in mid air to catch Arlong) is cut out. This includes Arlong using Shark on Darts 3 more times, talking from Sanji and everyone else, a Gomu Gomu no Tate (Shield), and a fourth Shark on Darts that sends Luffy flying towards the water, where the dub is at the moment.

     Name Change:
Luffy's Gomu Gomu no Ami (Net) is Gum Gum Finger Net.

     Clip Edit:
After the Gomu Gomu no Yari on Arlong, Luffy taking his feet off of Arlong's chest is cut out. After that is a surprised Usopp from the behind which is replaced by a different close up shot of Usopp's face with his mouth wide open, that part comes from after Luffy is thrown into the wall later on. After that a series of events go missing. The villagers cheer and Luffy comes down thinking that Arlong might be dead. Arlong wakes up and everyone notices how his eyes changed. Arlong grabs Luffy and whips him around, sending him into Arlong Park's wall. In the dub, after the Gum Gum Spear, Luffy suddenly appears in the wall and asks, "is it over?"

     Name Change:
Arlong's Kiribachi (Saw-shaped Sword) is dubbed Saw Blade, which is a legit translation.

     Clip Edit:
Luffy backing towards a wall while he dodges Kiribachi is cut out.

After Luffy and Arlong go inside Arlong Park, a shot of Sanji saying, "they went inside", and a shot of Nami with the background behind her turning white while she notices what kind of room they went into, these are taken out. After that Luffy catching his breath before Arlong steps on the shattered glass is taken out and put after Arlong steps on the glass. Arlong telling Luffy that the room they're in is the top floor is cut out.

The rest of episode 42 is cut out. It's a few minutes with Arlong talking about Nami being their nakama. Arlong points the Kiribachi at Luffy, too.

After the title for episode 43, a whole bunch of stuff is gone as well. Some more talk with Arlong, Luffy finding a pen that was stained with blood. [Sub] While he looks at the pen, Arlong puts the Kiribachi to his neck. When Arlong says that Nami will forever be his tool, and asks Luffy how he can use her better, Luffy puts down the pen, slowly places his hand on a piece of the Kiribachi, [Sub] and Arlong suddenly finds out that he can't move the blade anymore. All of a sudden, that piece of the blade breaks and Luffy furiously looks up, which is where the dub continues.

After Luffy looks up, another round of events are taken out. The villagers outside are concerned and Arlong keeps talking about Nami that makes Luffy even more furious. Later on, Arlong says that he provides Nami with food and shelter, and that as long as she lives she'll have nothing to worry about. The frontal view of Arlong as he says that is used in the dub after Luffy looks up furiously. Following that is a left side view of Arlong that was among the missing scenes, and then after that was an earlier frontal shot of Arlong with the top and the bottom of the screen darkened. They then show a repeat of the furious Luffy after this and then Luffy uses his Gum Gum Axe to take down Arlong Park. In the original, after Arlong said Nami will forever be her tool and nakama, Luffy kicks Nami's desk out the window and starts to demolish the room. Nami watches and remembers when she was put into that room Luffy was destroying. [Sub] Even when Arlong has Luffy by the neck, he continues to destroy it. Nami puts her hand to her mouth with tears in her eyes and quietly says, "Thank you..."

Arlong has bitten Luffy on the neck and in return, he grabs on Arlong's nose. Eventually, Luffy breaks Arlong's nose and Arlong releases his teeth from Luffy. After saying that he's going to destroy the entire place that Nami doesn't want to be in, he finally uses his Gomu Gomu no Ono on Arlong Park. The dub continues on~

Arlong snapping his nose back in place is cut out.

     Name Change:
Arlong's Shark on Hagaruma (Gear) is changed to Shark and Destroy.

     Clip Edit:
The short flashbacks of past events after the original eyecatcher are gone.

After Sanji appears from the water, a shot showing how Zoro's doing (a piece of debris falls on his head, lol) and short shots of Yosaku, Johnny, Usopp, Genzo, and Nojiko are gone.

     Dialogue/Clip Edit:
After the smoke starts to settle, Yosaku's dialogue is skipped. He originally talks after Johnny when Doctor-san said that Arlong Park is demolished. In the dub, Doctor and Johnny said that Luffy gave his life for them.

     Clip Edit:
A shot of the sky afterwards and Sanji and Genzo talking while they're in the water are gone. After Usopp talks, a shot of Nami is missing.

     Dialogue Edit:
In the dub, Usopp talks, but he continues talking until Luffy appears from the debris. All he said in the original was "Luffy..." and it was silent until Luffy appeared. He went and talked about how Luffy was a good friend, a fearless pirate, and how he won't be able to achieve his dream.

     Interesting Note:
When everyone is relieved to see Luffy, Yosaku and Johnny's nosebleeds are still there.

     Clip Edit:
Usopp asking if Luffy's all right, after seeing him catch his breath is cut out.

     Dialogue Edit:
Just in case anybody wanted to know how the shout was handled, this is how it went.

     Clip Edit:
Zoro and Usopp smiling afterwards is cut out, as well as a shot of the villagers.

The first shot of the villagers jumping for joy after Nojiko hugs Genzo is gone.

     Digital Edit:
Haven't had a digital edit in a while.. but the stuff on the villagers' shirts are wiped clean. [Dub|Sub]

     Clip Edit:
Sanji and Usopp noticing Nami as she steps up to Luffy is cut out.

A back shot of Nami that happens while the villagers are still tossing Luffy in the air is gone.

A close up shot of a beaten up Nezumi is taken out.

After Nezumi flees, Usopp gets upset about having people after them if the Straw Hats get a bounty. After that a lot of scenes have gone missing. It's about the villagers celebrating about Arlong Park's destruction, the Straw Hats laughing, and a few flashbacks about Arlong's first arrival and the events that took place afterwards. The dub continues with Nezumi phoning the Marine Headquarters about the Straw Hats.

     Digital Edit:
The word Marine on the small white flag is erased, as well as any trace of the word while Nezumi phones. Even the Den Den Mushi's Mar16ine (Marine 16) is changed to Navy. Everyone knows that though.. but it's funny that the smokes in the cigarette dish are still there. But the soldier that Nezumi is reporting to lost his smoke. After Nezumi faxes Luffy's image over, that soldier's cigarette dish is gone. But anyways, end of episode 43!

     Interesting Note:
Not so much interesting, I'd like to bring to your attention that the next episode, which is the celebration and the departure of Nami and the Straw Hats, is skipped [Sub]. Onward to episode 45..

     Clip Edit:
At the beginning of episode 45, Usopp works at his Hissatsu Tabasco Boshi while Luffy attempts to steal one of Nami's tangerines (but Sanji stops him), and a flyer falls from Nami's newspaper. The clip after the title is gone, too, with the Shishi Odoshi [Sub]. In the dub after the whole scene with Nezumi, it immediately goes to a front shot of the Marine Headquarters (called High Command in the dub).

     Digital Edit:
The kanji on the sign of the Marine HQ is erased. [Dub|Sub]

     Clip/Digital Edit:
The close up shots of the Marines before we see all of them sitting together at the table are gone. Two of the guys' cigars are editted out. [Dub|Sub] [Dub|Sub]

     Clip Edit:
The clip of one of them pouring sake is cut out. [Sub]

     Dialogue Edit:
The downfall of Axe Hand Morgan wasn't mentioned.

     Digital Edit:
The words "Dead or Alive" are still gone, but the names of the priates are thankfully there now. [Dub|Sub]

     Clip Edit:
A quick shot of a hand placing down the sake after Luffy's new bounty has been announced is cut out. Also, the Shishi Odoshi is gone again.

     Dialogue/Digital Edit:
The Marines' sign of Justice [Dub|Sub]and their mention of Absolute Justice is gone.

     Clip Edit:
The scenes that showed how Kaya and Merry were doing, as well as finding out about Luffy's bounty are gone. [Sub]

The shot with the camera moving down to the first Marine building that Morgan used to rule and how Coby and Helmeppo were doing are moved to after the clips of the Kuroneko. The beginning parts with Coby are cut out, though. No one barked orders to Coby in the original, either.

     Dialogue Edit:
There was originally no talking when the Marine soldier was going to Morgan's cell.

     Clip Edit:
The newspaper carrier flying from the Kuroneko ship, and one of the crewmates finding Luffy's poster (he runs to call Kuro) are cut out.

Zeff gets the same treatment as Kaya. [Sub]

The clips of Buggy-kun looking at Luffy's bounty on a tiny raft and Alvida (you're not supposed to know it's her yet, but with the Alvida laugh in the dub, you probably know now) on her ship are moved to this part of the episode. It was originally at the end of episode 45.

The Shanks-Mihawk scene happens now.. it originally happened later after the Fullbody stuff. The part with someone giving the crewmate some sake (probably) is cut out. Also a quick shot of Shanks and that crewmate slamming the wooden mug down before pointing at Mihawks.

A close up shot of Shanks' face is cut out.

And a quick shot of Shanks' side.

After Mihawk shows them Luffy's wanted poster, a quick shot of Yasopp and Ben looking is cut out.

After Shanks tells Mihawk he can't let him leave, all of a sudden Shanks pours some sake for him and has a little party.. [Sub] lol. This is not in the dub.

After the commercial break, we go back in time and see how the Straw Hats are doing..

     Digital Edit:
Some wanted poster stuff. [Dub|Sub]

     Clip Edit:
Nami holding her head at the thought of people catching them isn't in the dub. She knows that they can't stay in East Blue any longer.

The scenes after that are gone. Zooming in towards Zoro, him thinking about the more powerful people that will come to them, and zooming out from the Going Merry as Usopp and Sanji dance around (Luffy's singing too, lol).

In the dub after Nami talks to them, and before she holds her head, the anime takes another time warp and goes to Zoro, who picks up his katana to go up to Luffy. This is the part when Luffy wanted to beat up Fullbody's ship, but all the events with that are cut out. [Sub] In the dub, Usopp was just moving Luffy over to let Nami talk, but it was really to let Zoro handle Fullbody.

Makino and Fuusha Village gets the same treatment as Fullbody, Kaya, and Zeff. [Sub]

A side shot of the Going Merry, Nami looking at the map with everyone, a shot of the map with Nami pointing at the Reverse Mountain, and Zoro sitting back, these are cut out.. they originally happen after the Fuusha Village scene.

     Dialogue Edit:
Nami originally talked about how they were going to get into the Grand Line, and that they had to go through the Reverse Mountain first. Luffy pointed and said that they should just go directly to the Grand Line instead. In the dub he was trying to predict what Nami was trying to say next.

     Dilaogue/Clip Edit:
Sanji originally said that Zeff told him about the Reverse Mountain and that it was very dangerous. In the dub, he said that Zeff told him Roguetown was a dangerous place and they should stay away from it. The time he talks about this is cut out and put after Nami talks about Loguetown. Since they didn't mention the Reverse Mountain at all, that's why it was moved.

     Clip Edit:
A quiet shot of Sanji and Usopp are cut out. The shot of Luffy afterwards when he repeats what Nami said about Loguetown (in the original) is put after Nami turns and smiles.

The shot of Luffy that happened after Nami turned and smiled (it was replaced because of a clip switchover) is cut out and put after still shots of the crew smiling, more about it further down.

Right now we see someone who looks like Buggy looking at Luffy's wanted poster, and then a lady in her boat looking at the poster (whom everyone knows now, since we heard her laugh in the dub), but in the dub these scenes were showed earlier. Time warp! (And episode 45 is done).

After Luffy talks, we see Zoro, Usopp, and Sanji smiling, from a different episode, I think. Then that shot of Luffy that was cut out earlier is put here. And then.. a shot of an island far far away is put here.

     Name Change:
Some scenes from episode 48! Yes.. Buggy's side story didn't air. A marine gets the fax and quickly goes to Captain Smoker's room. "Captain Chaser!" he says.

     Clip Edit:
After the Marine tells Smoker, or Chaser, that Luffy is arriving to Loguetown soon. After that is a shot of Smoker, and you can see his cigars that are going to be editted out in episode 40. Finally dub episode 39 ends. Is it me or did they add more smoke to cover Smoker? [Dub|Sub]
