Episode 040: Roguetown
(Episode 048: The Town of the Beginning and the End. Arrival at Loguetown and

New characters introduced: Tashigi

     Dubbed Title Meaning:
First off, 'R' and 'L' are interchangeable so it can go either way. Oda has it as Loguetown in the manga.

     Digital Edit:
The Loguetown and Roguetown change on the town's sign. [Dub|Sub]

     Clip Edit:
A scene with Nami trying out different clothes at the shop is cut out. [Sub]

A scene with Sanji looking at all the ladies in town is cut out. [Sub]

A scene with Usopp looking at the different gagets in the shop is cut out. [Sub]

At the Marines, the camera moving right to left towards a window where a soldier receives the fax isn't in the dub. Now this is the scene that was put at the end of episode 39. That part in this episode 40 is cut out but it continues where it left off (sort of). A little bit of the talking is cut out and the rocks Smoker was stacking fell in the original, but not in the dub.

     Digital Edit:
They did take out Smoker's cigars AND they did add some random smoke! See the extra weird puff of smoke. [Dub|Sub]

The cigars [Dub|Sub] on Smoker's jacket and the kanji for Justice [Dub|Sub] on the back of his jacket are erased.

When Smoker glares at the soldier, he gets scared, and the sign on the buildings behind him has been erased. [Dub|Sub]

The letters on this guy's shirt is erased. [Dub|Sub]

Just amused at what Smoker looks like without his cigars, lol. [Dub|Sub]

     Dialogue Edit:
Gary of the Crescent Pirates, the one who was causing a ruckus in Loguetown had no name in the dub.

     Digital Edit:
Another Smoker one, you can tell that the smoke was purposely put there to make it look like smoke is coming from his mouth. [Dub|Sub]

The pirate's shirt got its words erased. [Dub|Sub]

     Clip Edit:
As smoke gathers around Smoker, Nami's talking to the store owner who talks about Smoker and how he has a Devil Fruit ability. The entire conversation and a shot of Smoker's back as the smoke clears is cut out.

     Dialogue/Clip Edit:
Luffy was going to leave since he assumed that Smoker didn't know where the execution platform was, but he calls him back and tells him to follow the smoke. In the dub, he did assume that Chaser didn't know where it was, but decided to try a path anyways and ran past him.

While Zoro's looking at the swords, he thinks back and remembers Nami saying she'll loan him some money except he'll have to pay back three times over with interest. That clip of Nami is cut out, and instead Zolo hears a girl's voice (Tashigi) while he keeps looking at the katanas' prices.

     Dialogue Edit:
In the dub, the two pirates are attacking Tashigi because Chaser called his captain ugly. Originally they were mad because Smoker captured his captain (Crescent Kaizoku-dan hm?).

     Clip Edit:
Zoro standing deep within the crowd (not the close up shot) is cut out.

Zoro looking astounded after Tashigi fought the two pirates is cut out.

After Zoro accidentally breaks Tashigi's glasses, the camera moves up towards the sun where we hear both of them talking. Zoro claims it was an accident, but Tashigi's shocked! This scene is cut out.

Luffy walking down the stairs while he's searching for the execution platform is cut out.

     Digital Edit:
Bar Gold Roger is changed to The Gold Roger. [Dub|Sub]

The bottle on the table got changed. [Dub|Sub]

     Clip Edit:
Luffy asks a question to the old bartender, but he tells him to get out and the camera moves to Luffy very quickly, which is taken out.

     Dialogue Edit:
The old bartender identifies the giant skull as being the skull of a man named the Killer Giant. In the dub he was called Big Head Jed (?).

The bartender said that the giant's last words were "Roger. No one can touch you. I praise you as the eternal pirate." In the dub, it was "Glory to all the pirates."

The names of other pirates weren't quite the same, some were different names.

     Clip Edit:
A close up clip of the bartender putting down the bottle after pouring a glass and then drinking is cut out. So was the clip afterwards, Luffy was shaking with excitement. Two shots of the bartender after that before offering to tell more stories is cut out.

     Digital Edit:
Some missing bottles of sake in the bartender's flashback. [Dub|Sub] The blush on the man's face is also erased.

     Digital/Dialogue Edit:
Mm mm mm.. power juice is how Roger became the Pirate King!

     Clip Edit:
After taking a drink of rum, Roger points at the bartender while holding the bottle in his hand, and this is cut out.

Luffy's still getting excited over the story, and it got taken out. A few clips following that are cut out, and they are just shots of Luffy and the bartender. To be more exact, it was the bartender moving his glass around, a backshot of Luffy, and the bartender putting his glass down on the table.

Added a shot of the Gold Roger sign after the commercial break, and the image transaction from Roger to Luffy didn't happen in the original.

In the dub, after seeing Gold Roger sitting where Luffy's sitting, his eyes flickered. So the last scene or two was actually reversed. In the original it was a close up of Luffy instead of the bartender.

     Digital Edit:
The word MILK on the carton is erased. [Dub|Sub]

     Dialogue Edit:
In the original, Luffy said he doesn't drink so the bartender decides to give milk instead, this isn't mentioned in the dub.

     Dialogue Edit:
Chaser wants to be King of the Pirates too! Some power juice, please! (bottle of sake on the table behind him is gone.)

     Clip Edit:
When the bartender chooses not to serve Smoker rum, his smoke goes and grabs a bottle for him, and this is cut out in the dub.

Smoker popping the cork out and drinking is cut out.

Luffy walking down Main Street is cut out.

     Digital Edit:
This guy's cigarette in Smoker's memories is erased. [Dub|Sub]

     Clip Edit:
A painting-like shot of Roger and the faces of the crowd are taken out in the dub. In between that, him walking up to the platform is cut out and is moved to happen a little later.

     Dialogue Edit:
The sentences that are said before the second original opening are said here while Roger climbs the stairs (he sounds like Dragon..), and this isn't in the dub.

     Clip Edit:
After a side shot of Roger as he smiles under the sun in the dub, he is now seen climbing the stairs.

In the dub, a man in the crowd immediately shouts, asking Roger where his treasures are. In the original, there is a side shot of the executioners, and Roger walks to them. After being asked if he had any last words, Roger asked them if they could take off his shackles. After being denied, Roger sits down and the two executioners position their swords in front of him. There is a shot of young Smoker in the crowd, the view of the execution platform from the crowd's point of view (this is moved to show later on), and one of the executioners with Roger looking towards the crowd when a man shouted.

After the man shouts, Smoker looking to his right with the crowd and the executioner telling him to shut up is taken out.

The man shouting "One Piece!" while the camera moves back and behind Roger, is cut out.

In the dub, the view from the crowd's point of view is shown here. The actual execution happening is cut out, and Roger was said to be "hung" in the dub (referring to the intro) instead of actually being impaled by two blades.

In the dub, Roger laughs after telling everyone he left everything in One Piece and young Smoker's eyes widen before the screen turnes white. When he is executed offscreen, the crowd cheers. In the original, the crowd cheered after Roger's execution and the camera zoomed out to view the entire square.

Smoker running to find Luffy and Luffy swallowing at the sight of the execution platform aren't in the dub. In between that, a side view of the execution platform and Luffy is moved to happen a few scenes later.

Episode 48 ends. We've still got about 4 minutes left in the dub. Luffy deciding to climb the platform is cut out.

Smoker walking out and leaving is cut out. Smoker's flashback of Luffy when they met and mentioning that Luffy will be there is also cut out.

The first shot of the group (there were two) watching Luffy climb the platform is cut out.

Luffy looking down when Smoker wanted to arrest him and a very close up of Smoker's eye after hearing about Luffy who stated he would be the next Pirate King are cut out.

Smoker cracking his knuckles is cut out.

     Dialogue Edit:
Smoker asking himself if Luffy is really worth 30 million and telling himself that he doesn't even need to use his ability on him is silent in the dub.

     Clip Edit:
Smoker landing after hitting Luffy down is cut out.

His flashback which was red tinted is taken out.

Sanji trying to find the girl he saw earlier (Alvida) and seeing Luffy fly in the sky is cut out.

A close up of the Gold Roger sign is cut out.

     Digital Edit:
A smaller version of the sign after is cleaned off. [Dub|Sub]

Everything on the wanted posters behind the bartender is erased. [Dub|Sub]

The bottle on Buggy's table is missing. [Dub|Sub]

     Interesting Note:
And Alvida's voice in the dub is the same as her voice from episode 1. In the original it changed completely.

     Clip Edit:
People gathering around Luffy after he decides to go to sleep is cut out.

The next actual scene involves Tashigi and Zoro, so in the dub they ended it off with a repeat of Buggy and Cabaji under their hoods.

     Interesting Note:
Not so much as interesting again, but look what they did to the Straw Hat skull in their "Summer Bummer" thing! [Dub] (Btw, it's a summer bummer thing for Zolo because he can only afford to buy a sword with a terrible curse, says the tv guy.)
