Episode 049: Rabid Rabbits
(Episode 080: A Doctorless Island? Adventure in the Country Without a Name! and
Episode 081: Ya Happy? The Doctor Who is Called a Witch!)
New characters introduced: Tony Tony Chopper
Clip Edit:
Last time, it ended with a Kureha clip that came from later on. Even before that, there was a close up of
Nami's closed eye, as Luffy tries to wake her up. This part is used again right after the title, and remember,
we're half way through 80.
After telling Nami about having to climb a mountain, a quick shot of the fireplace is cut out.
Before Sanji decides to go too, the camera moving down viewing Dalton's house while the crew talks is cut out.
Dialogue Edit:
In the original as soon as Luffy leaves, he tells Sanji they should go before Nami dies, carefree almost.
That's why Sanji got mad and yelled at him for making such a joke.
Dialogue/Clip Edit:
After Luffy and Sanji disappear, the three that were left behind are feeling somewhat concerned. Then there is
a close up of Vivi. Right after that, the close up of Usopp is missing. As well, occurring after each other,
the footprints of the two (they're out of sight now), Dalton turning around, opening the door to his house,
looking over to Usopp and Vivi, then coming back. Basically Dalton was going back into his house, but the two
didn't want to go in. Seeing how cold Usopp is even if he was putting on a brave face, Dalton decides to sit
down with them. Sitting down with them is when the dub continues on.
Clip Edit:
A shot of the window, shovel in the snow, Dalton's face, the sight of the Drum Rockies, Vivi and Usopp
(Dalton originally starts his story at this point).
When Usopp is surprised at Dalton's words, a shot of Dalton (before the scene with the view from the above)
is cut out.
During Dalton's story, at one point the camera shows the snow and slowly works up to view the three. This is
before the sideshot of Dalton's face in the dub, and is cut out.
The camera shaking from the blizzard before we go to see how Luffy and Sanji are doing is cut out.
Dialogue Edit:
Some storytelling editting. In the original, Luffy first tells Sanji that people in snow countries never sleep.
In the dub, he asks Sanji if he knew what people in cold countries sleep under.
Continuing that, dubbed Luffy responds by saying, a blanket of snow, and laughs. In the original, Sanji doesn't
believe Luffy, but he claims that it's true.
Clip Edit:
Something's watching them while they're running up. The baby lapahn begins its attack. However.. it's attempted
assault is entirely cut out. It keeps trying to attack both Luffy and Sanji, but they aren't paying much
attention to it and continue to talk to each other. Baby lapahn isn't having a good time.. keeps on trying to
get them but Luffy and Sanji keep dodging easily. Then Sanji decided that it was enough and kicked the little
sucker far away.
For you dub viewers, Luffy said that the people would die if they went to sleep. Sanji asked Luffy why Dalton
had a bed in his house if those people never slept. Luffy figured that the bed must be for when he dies. Sanji
thinks that's BS but then tells a story to Luffy in return. The women in snow countries have smooth skin,
because when it's cold, they have to rub their skin. That's how everyone's skin gets smooth. They get so
white it's nearly transparent. Luffy asked why the skin was white, and Sanji responded by saying that the
snow that constantly fell soaked into their skin. Luffy though Sanji was pretty dumb..
Basically Sanji and Luffy were running from right to left as the baby lapahn starts to run in the foreground.
The whole baby lapahn attack thereafter is gone, the shot of the Drum Rockies and then a shot of the forest.
Dialogue Edit:
So, dubbed Luffy goes on and tells Sanji a knock knock joke. In the original they were fairly serious about
the situation they were in.
Clip Edit:
Before the appearance of the pack (or clan, or whatever) of lapahns, there are two very quick shots of the
leader's face and the little baby on him. Those two quick shots are cut out.
Back to the three who were left behind, there is a quick shot of Usopp's face as he tells Dalton that he fought
Wapol's army off, and this is cut out.
Name Change:
Council of the Kings is changed to League of the Kings, while Vivi tells them where she saw Wapol before.
Clip Edit:
Dalton's fist trembling and a shot of Vivi's eye during the talk about Wapol being a terrible king is cut out.
Another shot of the Drum Rockies is missing. As well, a sort of back shot of Dalton is gone. In the dub, right
before the shot of the Drum Rockies, a scene was repeated. It was the camera shot from above, and then insert
the Drum Rockies.
After the Drum Rockies show up in the dub, the scenes after that are all mixed around. After that one sorta
back shot of Dalton, we go back to Sanji and Luffy vs. the Lapahns. They start to attack.. then after some
time, a view of Drum Island from far, far away. It's Chess looking through his binoculars. In the dub though,
Dalton continues his story while the two listen. They seemed to have reused a group shot from before. Dalton's
looking at the camera between Vivi and Usopp, who we only see the backs of. After that are the silent shots
of Usopp, Vivi, Dalton, and then an above view of all three of them. Then Chess looks through his binoculars.
You can sort of see how this turned out. Right, so after the bit about Wapol in the original (which remained
unaltered), the shots of Usopp, Vivi, and Dalton that were mentioned in this same paragraph are inserted.
Then it was the end of 80.
Dialogue Edit:
During those silent shots, all three of them were given thought dialogue.
Clip Edit:
After the bit about Wapol in the dub, a shot of the forest is inserted. If you remember from the above, I
mentioned about it being cut out.
Before a dark close up shot of one of the Lapahns, in the original it shifts to the Wapol scene. So let's
move on to episode 81..
I'm looking at the beginning of 81, and there's a missing Luffy and Sanji shot before the dark close up of a
lapahn.
Name Change:
Sanji's Flanc Shoot is changed to Gut Flatter. (Thanks Sparky-chan~)
Clip Edit:
As Sanji and Luffy continue to scurry from the pack of lapahn, luffy gets ambushed and tries to attack the
one lapahn, but Sanji moves quick enough to attack it instead. The following was cut out: Sanji kicking the
lapahn into the snow, Luffy adjusting his hold on Nami, and Sanji putting his hat back on his head.
Clip/Dialogue Edit:
When Usopp said that he was a brave warrior of the sea, he had his eyes closed and arms folded. After that he
raised a fist and opened his eyes which was cut out. As well, he pointed towards the rockies. He said that they
were hoping they'd find a doctor to be their nakama. After he points, Vivi looks towards that direction.
Dialogue Edit:
Usopp didn't say anything in the dub as he bowed to the woman.
The big woman that came to talk was given a name in the dub: Big Momma.
Clip Edit:
When the woman tells them that Kureha just went down to Cocoaweed, there is a moment of silence as they stare
at each other. The background is nearly all white. This little bit of silence is cut out.
The sudden shot of a child crying, the area of the town, some townsfolk, and the barkeep trying to calm
the child (Tamachibi) down is cut out.
A lady walks to the door but you only see her feet for now. In the original, you see the side of her face
before her reindeer steps in. So, in the dub you see her feet, then the reindeer's hooves.
Before you see her big grin in the original, it's commercial break. After the break, insert the missing view
of the town, and then insert the missing side shot of her face that was mentioned earlier. The shot of her
grin is cut out.
Dialogue Edit:
Ugly and scary!? Dr. Kureha never did like those words in the original.. but in the dub she seems to enjoy
being called that. Instead of asking "Ya happy?" (Happiikai?), she asks if she's ugly and scary.
Kureha asks the people if they wanted to know the secret to her youth, but this kind of dialogue wasn't present.
The guy said that she's 100 years old, but in the original he said 140 years old. Kureha didn't like that
because she said she was still 139. In the dub she said she was 99 and a half.
Digital Edit:
The AKC on Tamachibi's father's hat is erased. [Dub|Sub]
Clip Edit:
When Tamachibi's father claimed that his son wasn't sick at all, it went from Kureha's face, to his face, then
back to Kureha's face. The part with his face was cut out.
Before Dalton's slide disappears into the distance, a back shot of his head as he was in thought is cut out.
Kureha pulling the boy's short down so she could see his leg is cut out.
Dialogue Edit:
Kureha called Chopper to get antesthetics in the dub, while in the original it was antibiotics.
As well as wanting the 50% of the pub's assets, Kureha also wanted garbage bags, toilet paper, and umeshu.
In the dub it was just the 50%.
Clip Edit:
A back shot of Kureha as the villagers complain is cut out.
Another back shot of her (the same one, in fact, just at a different spot) before Chopper starts to growl is
cut out.
Digital Edit:
The erasing of "fire STOOL" on the father's apron. [Dub|Sub]
Dialogue Edit:
Right before Kureha leaves, she asks the boy "am I still scary?" but in the original, she tells him not to
forget the happiness of being cured.
Clip Edit:
As soon as Carue turned around towards Zoro after refusing to go take a swim, he notices that Zoro's not there
anymore.. the part that was cut out was Carue freaking out and imagining Zoro drowning in the water.
After the lapahn start jumping up and down, an even closer close up of Sanji's face (he's trying to figure out
what they're up to) is cut out. Right after is a back shot of both him and Luffy, and that's cut out too.
When Sanji finally realizes what's going to happen, his cigarette fell. His candy stick in the dub didn't.
Back to Dalton and the gang, insert a clip of the ram pulling the sleigh.
Dalton sort of turning his head to listen to Usopp while he still concentrates on where they're going is cut out.
In Dalton's flashback, Dalton had his eyes closed while Wapol was laughing (they were on a lift), the camera
on him with his eyes closed is cut out.
Clip/Dialogue Edit:
Dalton shocked at Wapol's words about banishing the doctors and Wapol calling his best 20 doctors the Isshi-Twenty
is cut out.
Clip Edit:
A side shot of Dalton's head as Wapol tells the three men his plans is taken out. Another shot from a different
camera view (before the story ends) is cut out as well.
After Vivi tells him what she thought about Wapol, she turns her head and closes her eyes. Dalton shifts his eyes
to look behind him. That part is cut out.
Dialogue Edit:
There were originally no thought dialogue when Zoro found Kureha.
Clip Edit:
A big shot of Wapol's face after they arrived is cut out. As well, a man falling down, and then seeing a
whole bunch of beaten up men. Wapol talking some more, then asks Chess if the castle is safe. The part with
Chess is where the dub continues.
Right after you see Wapol on his huge hippo appear beside Chess, the episode ends.
