Episode 054: The Impossible Dream
(Episode 086: Hiluluk's Sakura and Inherited Will)
New characters introduced: None
Clip Edit:
As soon as Luffy passes Chopper and rams into the wall, in the original Chopper raises his head. The camera then shows the
snow blowing outside. These two parts are cut out.
Chopper realizing that there's a certain scent about and Luffy appearing at the wall after the dust has settled are switched
around.
Before the first big close up on Kureha's face, the dub cuts the scene short by cutting before she turns her head to the right.
The first bit of Chopper running (the camera follows by taking a side view) is cut out. This is when the camera "catches up"
to Chopper and the little bit when Hiruluk asks about his remaining days. This is when the camera is upon his hand that is
covered in blood.
Before the ladder to Hiruluk's home is seen waving, Chopper is turning the room inside out by rapidly going through his
books on the shelf. This little bit is cut out.
Chopper flips 2 pages in the book he was reading in the dub, while in the original he flipped through 4.
Dialogue Edit:
In the dub, Kureha seems to be narrating for most of the story. In the original it was practically all silent, but in the
dub it happens throughout the whole thing, as if to tell the audience who doesn't understand.
Clip Edit:
Afer Chopper begins his journey and walks towards the camera, a short memory of the almost naked Hiruluk when they first
met ("I'm not going to shoot you!") is cut out.
Digital Edit:
The words on the bindings of Hiruluk's books are cleaned off. [Dub|Sub]
The scars on the reindeer who fights Chopper are erased. [Dub|Sub]
Clip Edit:
Chopper struggling to get up and turning around is cut out. This happens before a side view of the reindeer charging towards
Chopper.
Digital Edit:
The little scribbles on Chopper's book are erased. [Dub|Sub]
Clip Edit:
The door making some noise and Hiruluk shifting his eyes to see what's going on is cut out.
From Hiruluk's point of view looking at Chopper, he slowly lowers his gun. In the dub his gun was already lowered, but it's
the original thing. Just a second ago it was his weird green one. Perhaps they weren't expecting you to know that that
brown thing down there was his gun...
Hiruluk dropping his gun as soon as Chopper shows him the Amiudake (it's name is kept!) is cut out.
When Chess and Kuromarimo report to Wapol about two doctors remaining in Drum, different scenes were used.
A shot of Hiruluk following a shot of Kureha as they first talk is cut out. These happen before the camera view of Kureha's
home.
A side view of Hiruluk's face while he bows is cut out. This is before Kureha starts to walk towards him and kicks him out.
Digital Edit:
Hiruluk with no bombs makes Hiruluk's hands look funny looking. [Dub|Sub]
Actually, let explain some stuff... Hiluluk's right hand is redrawn, the bombs are gone, and Hiriluk's mouth doesn't move at
all, which tells me that they only used the screens while he mouth is open? I couldn't get
both screenshots to match for some reason.
Clip Edit:
Yikes, a big jumble of scenes here. After the above, the explosion caused by Hiruluk is not present. A soldier's coughing
from the smoke and Hiruluk holds a gun to his head. In the dub, after the above a scene taken from when the soldiers
pointed their guns towards Hiruluk later on in the episode is used here, so *click* they're pointing their green guns. Now
we use a scene from when Kureha first appeared and walked towards a door to cure that one child a few episodes back. Who
knew Hiruluk was an exterior designer and changed his door that quickly. Anyways, after that little bit Hililuk already
holds his green gun thing to the soldier. After that things continue on the way they should.
After Kureha's leg flies (this happens extremely quick) Kureha lands a punch on Chopper's face but the actual hit got
cut out.
When Chopper comes to his senses as to what just happened, the shot of Kureha with her darkened face, and then the very close
up of Chopper's face after are cut out.
As Chopper begins to cry because of what he's done, the following are cut out. Kureha's glasses lying on the floor, her
picking them up, a close up of one of Chopper's eyes, and Kureha crying with her glasses on.
Digital/Color Edit:
As usual, the labels on these bottles are cleaned off as well as an additional color change. [Dub|Sub]
Dialogue Edit:
Though I'm not going to touch on Hiluluk's speech a whole lot, all I'm mentioning is the part where he says that people
die when they are forgotten is not present.
Clip Edit:
When Hiluluk tells everyone not to harm Chopper when he arrives, a view of blood appearing from Hiluluk's mouth is cut out.
Before Hiluluk gives his last final shout, a shot of him and Chopper together flashes in his mind, then by that time his
eyes were closed from happiness. These parts are cut out.
After Hiluluk drinks and Kureha gives her farewell, insert an extra view where Hiluluk is sitting in front of all the
doctors and soldiers.
The sudden explosion is cut out entirely. That one particular view of the Drum castle was replaced with a regular view of
it (it was probably used a few episodes back, just being reused here). They probably did that so they didn't have to go
through the trouble of erasing all the smoke (though they do that later on.. in unavoidable spots).
Digital Edit:
I think the audience is supposed to assume that Hiluluk did blow himself up even though there was no explosion. At first I was
thinking, are they trying to make you think that he "did himself in" by jumping off the cliff? The smoke drifting from
his hat changed color in this pic [Dub|Sub].
Then when Dalton and the soldiers are in shock, no smoke to be seen.. almost everyone in this pic got somewhat redrawn.
[Dub|Sub] See?
The smoke from Hiluluk's fallen hat in front of Chopper is no where to be seen.
Clip Edit:
Flashes of Chopper's memories with him are removed.
Digital Edit:
Huge crater, no Hiluluk, but no smoke. Hmm. Now you tell me what's going on.
Name Change:
I'm sure I mentioned this before, but just to refresh your memories. Kureha asks Chopper to call her Doctorine, but in the
dub she wants to be called Doctor K.
Clip Edit:
When Sanji's in the foreground, he lights up a smoke, but 4Kids cut out that part, so Sanji's sitting still. In
the dub, he's already seen sitting still, and they used the part after he already lit up.
A scene from the beginning of the episode is inserted in between the above.. that doesn't really make sense, so I'll explain.
The scene used (the one I speak of in the third edit when Kureha begins her story) is put in the middle of the above edit. Then
they turn their heads when Chopper calls. So in the dub, you have the still screen, the inserted screen, back to that same still
screen, then they turn their heads. In the original Sanji lights up, you hear Chopper calling, and then they turn their heads.
Nice 'n easy. And not complicated...
